Digital coaching service improves adolescents’ working-life skills

Junior Achievement (JA) Finland has embarked on a joint project with the City of Turku in the autumn of 2021 to support young people in finding employment in Southwest Finland. The project is built around the existing Duunikoutsi app and the purpose of the project is to develop a new digital app-based coaching service to improve young people’s working-life skills.

The project is funded as a part of the European Union’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The project, which completes on 31.8.2023, is funded by the European Social Fund granted by the ELY centre, and AKKE funding granted by the Regional Council of Southwest Finland.

The project is targeted at upper secondary education and higher education students, young people who are unemployed or outside the labour force, immigrants and young people in the need of special assistance who are residing in the Turku and Southwest Finland region.

New language versions of the app will be introduced that will service young people with immigrant backgrounds. The goal is to teach working life vocabulary and the meaning of work to the young people.

The goal of the project is to provide proactive working life coaching for young people that prevents social exclusion, and to bring a digital working-life coaching service to the Duunikoutsi app. As a more widespread goal, the project aims to provide young people, guidance and counselling professionals, and teachers with up-to-date and accurate information on working life, skills needed in working life and tools supporting working life skills.

The app has been developed by Junior Achievement (JA) Finland in collaboration with The Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK), Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) and Ministry of Education and Culture (OKM). The software development is done by software company Sarkain. In 2020, Duunikoutsi was selected as the best digital learning solution in an eEemeli annual quality competition organised by the Association of Finnish eLearning Centre!
